"This is the best weather of the year!" We heard that more than once during our visit to Gothenburg, Sweden in June, 2018. And the weather was perfect. Gothenburg is a clean and beautiful city. The sunny weather and cloudless blue skies made it even more warm and inviting.
We were shooting an episode of the Peruvian TV show "Peruanos en el Mundo" with Landó Quintanilla, a Peruvian who now lives in the city.
He told us it was a perfect day to take a trip to the Swedish Islands, located just off the coast, in the North Sea. Our destination was the island of Styrsö, a small island with about 14 hundred inhabitants. Landó explained that most residents only live there in the summer time.
But he had two friends who live there year-round. We walked from the ferry dock to their cottage. People have been living on the island since the stone age. As we walked, we saw an old church that dates back to the 16th century and plenty of old beautiful homes. But one of the most charming, was the cottage owned by his friends Arturo and Ingrid Trujillo.
Inside, the cottage is old with low ceilings. It has been beautifully restored and decorated. Outside, there is a huge rock, where you can stand and see all over the island.

Standing there, it is easy to image that people have been standing on this same rock enjoying the view for more than 500 years.
Even in the "busy" summer season, the island is quiet and a wonderful place to relax. Lando made some Peruvian cocktails for everyone and we sipped them outside next to the flower garden enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
Ingrid explained that it gets cold in winter and they can be isolated. But they love their island cottage and it's easy to understand why.
Notes
There is a wonderful Swedish movie called "The Square," starring Elizabeth Moss. The movie's Director, Ruben Östlund , was born on Styrsö.Our full segment with Landó is linked in the videos below. Watch it to see more of this charming home and island.
