 WTVC NewsChannel 9 won the 2001 Radio-Television News Directors Association Edward R. Murrow Award for spot news for its coverage of the Tennga, Ga., school bus/train collision on March 28, 2000.

WTVC won the national honor in the small-market category for its all-day coverage of the tragedy. There were 2,285 entries from 548 news organizations for the awards in all categories, according to WTVC news director Steve Hunsicker.

The station also won a regional award for overall excellence for its Web site, newschannel9.com.
